May 4 - 5 Golfo Run EL GOLFO RUN! THE DATE IS SET for the Cinco de Mayo weekend, May 4-5-6, with a ‘Survivor’s Party’ at La Casa del Capitan around 5PM on Sunday the 6th. You DO need to make a reservation  at rockypointtimes@yahoo.com  They DO NOT accept $$, you pay for your room upon arrival, but the organizers assign the rooms. Everyone is welcome to join if you have a 4×4 and know how to drive it! For past tales and adventures of the El Golf Run, check out this excerpt from Tom O’Hare of the Rocky Point Times “…El Golfo or Bust… Last month we had our 31st semi- annual El Golfo Run. Besides our regulars who always participate, we had 14 new people that went for their first time. This trip we had the usual buggies, rails and jeeps, the unusual vehicles were two four wheelers, a golf cart, Razr and Polaris. Everyone said had a good time and will join us again. As has been the tradition, our trip was finished off with a ‘Survivors Party’ which was held at La Casa del Capitan, with a good margarita conversation and dinner. For those of you who are not familiar with our “El Golfo Run”, we do it twice a year – May and October. It is about an 85 mile trip to a small fishing town named “El Golfo de Santa Clara”. We try to stay off road as much as possible, driving thru the desert and along the seashore…” May 5, Chili Cook Off at JJ's Cantina Grab your spoons!!  JJ’s Cantina out in Cholla Bay will be holding a 5 de Mayo Chili Cook-off!! With the warm spring weather, it is time to start thinking about sailing and what better place than in Mexico! Join in on this family fun weekend, sponsored by Arizona Hobie Fleets 66 and 514 and Multihull Fleet 42. This is a loosely-organized weekend of events on and off the water, full of surprises, fun sailing events, possibly a semi-long distance race, maybe a hounds and fox chase, WHATEVER!
ENTER THE ANNUAL FLEET 66 CHILI COOK OFF CONTEST!

Saturday night, after the events of the day, bring your favorite chili to the judging area in a crock pot with a serving spoon. For those not bringing chili, please pot luck with condiments, crackers, tortillas, shredded cheese, hors d’oeuvres, desert, etc. to share. Everyone can dig in after the judging. Prizes will be awarded for Best in Traditional, Nontraditional, and Vegetarian categories.

The once traditional OTP (Outtatown Productions) Rocky Point beach volleyball is April 14th this year. The Youth Sports Foundation of Rocky Point already has prizes and sponsors lined up. So come play in the first truly International Rocky Point beach tournament against college rated players and National teams from Mexico besides AZ and TX teams. Proceeds go to the YSF charity right there in Rocky Point!

Feb 18- Mardi Gras Parade & Dinner at Cholla Bay

On Saturday, February 18, the OBSC will host the annual

Mardi Gras Parade and Party. The theme this year is : COLLEGE

SPORTS. The parade will start at the Clubhouse at

4:00PM; please arrive by 3:30PM for preliminary judging and

staging. As per OBSC policy, we will have the best judges

money can buy!! Awards will be given for the best overall, best conforming to theme,

most quirky and the judges’ favorite. The winners will be announced after dinner. We encourage

everyone to participate in the parade, even if they do not have an entry. The club will supply Mardi

Gras beads and trinkets, but please bring candy to throw to the crowds

lining the parade route. Happy hour will start immediately after the parade.

As usual, beer and wine will be flowing. Dinner will be a tail gate

party with gourmet hotdogs, hamburgers, chili and all of the expected tail

gate trimmings served around 6:30PM. All this for the usual $10/members

and $15/guests.

 

FEB 17-21 CARNAVAL IN ROCKY POINT

 

Puerto Peñasco is getting ready for this year’s Carnaval “Vive La Fiesta”, to be held Feb. 17 – 21, and the floats are taking shape! A good part of this year’s floats are being put together with recycled materials, as well as bits and pieces from last year’s floats that remain in good condition. The Carnaval committee recently led the Mayor and guests through the float facility and pointed out the “Alegría del Carnaval” (Joy of the Carnaval) that will carry 2012 Carnaval royalty in the parades. Also under varying stages of float readiness were the “Fiesta Oriental,” “Fiesta Musical,” and “Fiesta Floral.”

The 2012 Puerto Peñasco Carnaval “Vive la Fiesta!” will be Feb. 17 – 21, with rides and entertainment set up in the large esplanade lot near Hotel Peñasco del Sol and parades are scheduled to take place on Feb. 18^th, 19^th, and 21^st.
